Programa Infantil "Saturday Club"

Saturday Club Kid's Box 1

The program focuses on 5 general areas:

COGNITION AND GENERAL KNOWLEDGE

Many of our lessons and activities are geared toward developing our young students’ ability to think critically and analytically. We use activities, books and games to teach our students logic and reasoning, causation and problem solving. Much of this work is done in motivating thematic units, which integrate math, science, literary and social studies. Children also use the creative arts to express and represent what they know, think, believe and feel.

PHYSICAL WELL-BEING, HEALTH, AND MOTOR DEVELOPMENT

Through indoor and outdoor movement and play, students develop their gross motor skills and physical fitness by jumping, balancing and dancing. Fine motor skills come with games, buttoning, zipping, arts and crafts, drawing, cutting and glueing – all of which prepare young hands for good penmanship. Sensorimotor skills are enhanced by activities and lessons which involve exploring the senses.

LANGUAGE, LITERACY AND COMMUNICATION

In the classroom, effective communication begins with listening and speaking. Children practice listening and responding through songs, chants and stories. They are encouraged through play to respond in conversation with their peers. Games, dress-up and imaginary play are important in developing a child’s expressive language. Students learn new vocabulary and improve comprehension through literacy lessons, small group work and one-on-one work with their teacher. Students are immersed in English, and those students who are new to the language begin acquiring proficiency in Early Childhood.

SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Caring adults provide the model for kind and trusting relationships as children engage in interactions with grown-ups and peers. Through lessons, activities and games, children learn to develop friendships, to cooperate, and to emphasise and use positive negotiation skills. Over time, children gain an awareness of their behaviour and its effects on others as well as a greater awareness of their emotions. With reassurance and guidance, children become independent in the classroom.

APPROACHES TOWARD LEARNING

We strive to promote life-long learners at Edgington School. This attitude is shaped and cultivated at an early age. We feel that children need to follow their own curiosity and interests to learn new things. Children learn to demonstrate initiative by asking questions and making suggestions. We encourage children to persist when facing a challenge and to approach activities with creativity and inventiveness. Lastly, we develop reflectiveness in our students, so that they can learn from their experiences.
